Hi I already hold a level 8 degree from a private college. I'm starting a totally different college course (also level 8) in September. Is there any chance that I would get any sort of a grant or is it totally impossible?
I was certain I would but I was reading the guidelines and it looks like I wont be eligible . Its so annoying because I did a course which I couldn't receive a grant for. That was fine. Then when I try to do an approved degree I cant get it either. Its so frustrating :(

Rainbows I have the exact same situation, and unfortunately the answer is that you're not eligible for a grant. I spoke to the people in the county council and rang the higher education crowd as well.
The only way you can get a grant if you already have a level 8 is if you're progressing from your previous degree (ie, doing a higher diploma/level 9 in the same area). And if that's the case for you, I don't know the criteria.
But if you have a level 8 and are currently doing another level 8, you're ineligible.
    Very frustrating.

Also will I qualify for the free fees initiative?

Not if you've had free fees previously.

Not if you have a qualification at the same level, they do not take into account the fact that you may have paid your own way on your first degree.

Basically if you have a Level 8 degree you will not get funding for another Level 8 degree.
