Fine/Penalty Points

Is it possible to have to pay a fine without getting penalty points for an offence such as Speeding (2/4 Points, €80/€120 Fine) or are penalty points applied in every possible case?

Penalty points are always applied. It's a provision of the related act that where penalty points exist for an offence, they are automatically applied upon payment of the fine. In effect, it's not an and/or situation - the points come after the fine, not with it.

penalty points for speeding are automatically given with the fine. if you dont pay the fine you will go to court and could get double points

if you go to court and plead guilty, you wont get points, but possibly (not always) a bigger fine.

if its the case that you go to court you dont get points everyone would be doing that.of course you will get the points if you plead guilty.the only hope you have of not getting points is to plead innocent

trust me, its a loophole in law at the moment, which is soon to be closed.

I don't think you have that right.

Where you go to court and receive a disqualification, you don't get penalty points, according to the law. So you could be off the road for six months, but point-free.

Id rather not go through the hassle of court and, no offence, but I'm not really sure about what your saying. Ill just pay the fine, take the points and hope I dont get fucked over when I renew the insurance.

Thats not correct. The loophole is people dont bring there licence to court so the registar or clerk cant apply the points. Total madness imo.

Just got my first 2 points today, 60 in a 50 zone at 1am, so much for speedo over reading, I was sure I was doing 58. I also heard cameras don't work in the rain, but it seemed to be working fine.

To be honest speeding in the rain in the dark, I probably deserve the points and the fine. Just a little bit pissed off, it was a two lane road with not a soul in sight.

Yes but bare in mind that it's a separate offence for you not to surrender your licence.
