    Hi
I do apologise if has been discussed before ;). I currently have sky+ HD installed the sitting room and have a old sky box in the bedroom just have the FTA channels on that one,i will getting rid of sky come September because I cant justify paying 1,200 Euro a year to them.
What I need to know is

What box to get? I would like similar to the sky+ set up it would have to be a hd box and I would need to be able to get the Irish channels and as many other hd and sd channels as possible.
Will my sky dish be ok for the set up? I will have the guts of €300 euro to send on the new system or a little more. Also if anyone in the Kildare area who knows of someone who could supply the new boxs and do the install? Or if anybody on here does it please pm to discuss.
Thanks for reading and sorry for all the questions :o

The closest replacement for a Sky+ system is a Freesat branded PVR such as the Humax Foxsat PVR. But you can't get the Irish channels on this. You may be able to get them in a work-around fashion when Saorsat begins live transmissions.

If you can do without a 7-day epg for the UK channels and the flexibility of a Sky+, then you can pick up a combo box such as the Ferguson Ariva 120 for about €100 which will record UK Sat and Irish DTT channels onto USB drive.

If you need the 7-day EPG for both sat and DTT channels, then you're looking at a Linux box which has a steeper learning curve in terms of setup but a lot of features similar to Sky+. Single tuner models around €250, twin tuner models €350 (e.g. VU+ solo or VU+ Duo).

Your pre-existing dish will be fine. If you can already receive analogue TV3 or TG4 through your aerial, you should be fine for DTT too.
