Looking for a dog to rehome

Hey guys, I'm just asking on behalf of a friend of mine. He's looking for a new dog, doesn't have one at the moment. He lives out in the country and has lots and lots of space. He was thinking of rehoming a dog rather than getting a puppy. However he is wary as his sister took in a rescue dog and has had nothing but problems with him with barking and other problems. Can anyone recommend some good rescues that would know a dogs personality etc before rehoming them? I think he was looking for a golden retriever but would be open to other breeds!
