    Hi,
Planing a trip to Donegal in September staying in Donegal town. Plan at the moment is to play Rosapenna on the Thursday in a open singles and don't fancy driving more than a hour any other day so for the other 3 days it looks like Donegal, Nairn and Portnoo and Bundoran. Don't think i am missing any course closer than those? Or any suggestions.
    Mike

ballyliffens more than an hour from donegal town alright.
murvagh is good and portnoo is worth a look, i wouldnt bother with bundoran and head for rosses point or enniscrone which are both within an hour easily.

Played both last month and may be a bit hung over on Sunday and Bundoran seems to be easier. Is it really bad?

Bundoran doesn't exactly thrill - it's a tough links, but not a particularly pretty one.

To the west, about 55km away are Strandhill (opposite Rosses Point) and Castle Dargan. Or Lough Erne in Enniskillen is about the same distance. Lough Erne will be pricey enough, but the other two are around 30 euro.

yep i agree... im from the area but living in the midlands. Bundoran is ok but uninspiring as a course. Lough Erne will set you back 100 quid sterling or there abouts and afaik Rosses point is about €80... strandhill is a nice course and about the same money as bundoran though Murvagh is the best course in the area imo and will set you back about €50 midweek

Portsalon is 30 mins from rosapenna. nice course and 2nd is the best driving hole in the country.

Swap bundoran for cruit. Try the place just once

I am sitting at my desk, itching to get going.

I am heading to Ballyliffin for the weekend, staying in the hotel there. Great value too

If you have a chance get up there

Open every Tuesday in Ballybofey for €15, nice course in mature parkland. Greens are first class these days. Shortish, enoyable and challenging course. It would compliment the longer links courses of the North West very well.

Played the pro am in Ballyliffin last weekend and both courses are in great condition. The views around the courses are spectacular and well worth playing.I played Bundoran a few times also and whilst it can be a bit plain it is a good test of golf and has some good holes on it. No matter where you play enjoy it. I like playing courses myself before judging them.

Also should have said to get your hands on an open fairways card for the trip. Cruit and Narin / Portnoo both do 4 for the price of 2 which will save you a nice amount of money if you play them. Donegal will give you 25% of. If you dont have a card PM me and I can give you a lend of my one for the weekend.

Ballyliffin Glashedy Links is the best course in Donegal imo if you can venture that far up. I am a member of Murvagh but I have no hesistation stating that. If I was you, I would perhaps consider staying in the Portnoo area for one of those nights as Narin / Portnoo and Cruit are only 20 mins apart. Cruit would be the perfect course if your hungover, not anyway hard and nothing but pure fun golf.

Personally I wouldn't finish with Bundoran, it would just pale in comparison to the courses you have played. Even start with that on the Thursday and move on to the better ones then if you want to strictly adhere to the distance limits.
