Itunes / hard drive advice please

I am a big downloader of podcasts from Itunes, radio show, DJ sets, news, documentaries, video casts etc... For the last year and a half I have been downloading and deleting soon after, maybe a day or so later. When deleting, I never keep the files as I don't want to lose disk space to old Liveline episodes or bbc news etc which I'm not going to be listening to again.
While I haven't had any hard drive issues I'm wondering is all this writing to and deleting from the disk a bad idea in the long term. Should I keep files and then do a big group delete at the end of the week or month? Or is it ok to keep going as I already am? Any ideas or advice? Thanks.

If the hard drive is going to fail it's going to fail. I wouldn't worry about trying to prolong its life. I doubt it would make any difference anyway.
