My wifes car wont start and its in the drive way and it dosent seem anything simple. I called our insurance company to get the breakdown assitance and have it towed to my friends garage.

I was told that we are not covered if the car is in the driveway of our house, in fact you must be over 10kms away from the house in order to avail of the breakdown assitance.

Is this common practice, seems a bit of a joke?

Standard for all breakdown cover. You must have "homestart" to get them out to your house.
