...been driving since January 2008 (late starter) and initialy bought a Vauxhall Signum with delivery mileage and subsequently added a Mini Clubman Cooper S.

Have been thinking of changing the Signum for a while. It served its purpose and while very practical was not in the slightest bit exciting. Was off in Australia earlier in the year and drove a Holden SV6 and Ford FAlcon XR6. POsted on here before about buying a VAuxhall VXR8 which is basically a 6.2L V8 Holden. NOt many of you seemed that impressed despite the relatively low price tag - £20k for a 2 year old 450BHP car.

Anyway time has moved on and I have impulsively purchased a 400BHP V8 but not a VAuxhall.....a Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged cost about £22k with 38k miles on the clock - late 2005 model. Perfect condition, new wheels and brakes, beautiful interior.

An expensive car to run except that motor tax in the UK is only £260 and my mileage won't be that high. Filled it up today (from about 1/8th full) and it cost £125 so that's some big tank. Suggests I should be 450 miles of 70mph motorway driving out of that. Which is useful as it'll be on the ferry to Dublin at the weekend for a week.

THere's nothing smoky about this car, it's not a daysul!!!

Good sound from the engine - reminds me of many US rental cars and especially Lincolns (which may be a bit of a sideways compliment).

Definitiely a fast one - great take off from the lights on Westminster Bridge last night, was practically over the other side before anyone else moved away.

I'm hoping the maintenance costs won' be that great and as I'm not doing excessive mileage, petrol will be limited. In the heel of the hunt, it's a lot cheaper than a similarly specc'd Mondeo.

THe interior is fab (with rear TVs which will get little use) although the navy/cream may not be everyone's taste. The clincher was the LW radio - can listen to RTE RAdio 1 on 252 if I fancy it!!
