Stena Sail and Rail on a Sunday question -

    Hi

Does anyone use the Stena line "Sail and Rail" service from Dublin to Holyhead and then on to London on a Sunday, and know if there is any restriction on the connecting trains you can take from Holyhead on a Sunday when you arrive in Holyhead ?

I ask because I would like to use this service to get to London, and in particular to connect with another train in london, and for me the 12.50 train from Holyhead gets to London at 16.44 , but on the Stena website it says no train connections before 13.00

(the first train after 13.00 is the 13.55 which doesn't get to London till 17.44 which would be too late, so before I book I was wondering would anyone know ?

    Thanks for any suggestions, Mike

Can't help you with exact times, but I will say that having travelled this route on Sundays that the trains are much less frequent than on weekdays. Not a day I'd be looking to make an important connection tbh.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll play it safe and try going on a Monday instead.

Don't mind the Stena site, they are utterly useless at updating sailrail information:mad:! Always use http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search to plan your train journey to/from Holyhead, as the train timetables on the ferry sites are not well updated.

You are free to use the 1250 service to London if you wish. Contrary to Savmans advice I actually like travelling SailRail to London on a Sunday, the 1250 train is direct to London so there is no need to change trains. It's actually seemless comparing to weekdays when you have to change trains along the way.

The only problem I can see is the connecting train in London, crossing the city on a Sunday can be a pain in the hole since a lot of the tube lines are shut down due to engineering works.

Rail services in the UK are pretty good at the weekends (better than our weekday services here!) particularly the closer you get to London and other major population centres etc.

Use http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ to plan your journey as it is the most comprehensive and will also keep you updated on any relevant engineering works on the lines you want to work (which can significantly affect Sunday services by shutting down portions of the line and replacing it with a bus service)
