Try Googling 'Oman Air Trip Review/reports'. You'd get a lot more info. that way.

I think you get what you pay for in most cases. You seem to be wanting something cheap but not nasty, I dont think your going to have much luck. By nasty I mean not up to the standards youd expect of a EU or US airline, you wont be flying in the hold with a bunch of chickens:pac:

I've personally never travelled with Oman Air but I have read good things about Oman Air on a few other forums I read and they are supposed to be good enough. Having travelled to Thailand with Etihad this year, this is usually how it breaks down after much searching looking at the route. Oman are standing out as the cheapest respectable airline for this Winter as I was doing a search recently too. I would say you have 5 options in differing cost, quality and service. Skyscanner is a good start but not necessarily the cheapest, Expedia, Momondo and Oman Air's website are all worth checking out too.

    1) Usually going through India is the cheapest but the transfer at the airport in Mumbai & Delhi is supposed to be messy and the airports of a poor standard, most people who have done it would not recommend if you can find a better alternative for a little extra. Jet Airways and Kingfisher are supposed to be good airlines however I have yet to hear positive things about Air India.

    2) You could also fly with China Airlines but their aircraft are old and lacks in-flight entertainment and they have a dodgy safety record. This is probably the cheapest longhaul non-stop way of getting to Thailand going direct from London & Amsterdam. Most people would not recommend it like with Air India.

    3) Flying through the Middle East with Etihad, Qatar, Gulf Air & Oman Air represents the best value for money with good airlines with Qatar being a 5 star, you get great service and pretty good pricing, not the cheapest but you get a good service without becoming Ryanair-esque. Etihad & Qatar are the most expensive of them and Etihad seem to be far more expensive from Dublin than Heathrow.

    4) Emirates and Eva Air, Emirates will set you back close to another €100 over the airlines above but are generally regarded as one of the best airlines worldwide, you will get extra baggage allowance 30kgs and will fly on the A380 if you book it, however you are now into direct flight costs territory and it might be cheaper to fly Eva Air from London to Bangkok than going through Dubai with Emirates on the A380.

    5) Direct from Heathrow with BA, Qantas or Thai Airways, expect to pay €800+ from Heathrow with Qantas and Thai being the best, BA is slightly cheaper but I find their seats cramped on their 747's compared to Qantas plus the screen size is tiny with a limited choice of in flight entertainment. I have never flown Thai long haul but their domestic service is pretty good and I have read alot of positive things about them.

Mid November to the end of January is peak travel season to Thailand and throughout December you'd be lucky to get change out of a grand for flights, and if you were spending that sort of money on flights anyway you'd be aswell off to fly Direct than going to the trouble of connecting, however if a big saving can be made by all means go for it, because €200 saved on a flight is a whole weeks spending in Thailand depending on your frugality. The main thing is to decide soon because the longer you put off booking the trip the more it will ultimately cost you.

    This is Oman Air below

They have cheap flights but their aircraft and service seem to be far ahead of some of the similarly priced offerings from the likes of Air India or China Airlines. What sort of prices are they looking from London to Bangkok?
