To most charities. SVP, OXFAM and many others do not accept electrical goods, such as TV, Radio, etc... Which does not make sense.
I want to get rid of my TV and my first wish was to give away to a charity, but they do no accept electrical goods for "health and safety" reason.
Any idea of a community/charity willing to accept my offer ???

Prob people dumping old tv sets etc that don't work. I reckon Health and Safety is just a way of saying that they don't accept stuff that in a lot of cases isn't working (Not suggesting that your TV isn't working, talking in general)

I volunteer in a charity shop. The reason we don't accept electrical goods is just in case we sell it and it somehow becomes faulty and sets the customers house on fire. We could be sued for selling faulty goods.

Tbh, I don't think you will find many charities willing to take it.

Definitely someone on Jumbletown would take it off your hands though I understand you wanted to donate to charity.

I volunteer in a Charity Shop too.

We sometimes have taken TV's ..

As already said above: What if a charity shop sells your TV taking your word it is ok, then it sets someones house on fire or electrocutes someone!

I'm not saying your TV in particular OP :)

    Just to give you figures:

Out of 6 TV's donated: 4 didn't work or had major faults - not fire inducing :p

Often the people that have bought them might be short of cash already, might end up getting taxi to bring TV home, then taxi back to return faulty TV - not fun!!

That's just my experience - Also old TV's are heavy and I can't lift them :(

But in saying all that we still take some electrical items.

I work for SVP and the reason we dont take electrical goods is as above....

Also if you sell an electrical good you must register with WEEE which costs money. You also are required to accept the electrical good back and dispose of it and you must pay to opt out of this. Unless the rules changed.

If you have a tele and it works

    try freebees on adverts.ie

    Maybe these would help?

    http://www.greenyourgoods.ie/we-buy-mobile-phones.html

You can donate/sell your stuff and nominate a charity to benefit.
