Saw this last night... was wierd felt the exact same after seeing this as I did after 'Michael Clayton'. Which I'd sum up as 'Meh'.

Really enjoyable watch, great acting and some great scenes.. but theres just some substance missing to it... like it could have been a good film but its missing that one big scene..

    Looking forward to this

I could listen to Ryan Gosling read the phone book and not be bored so it's already worth the admission fee

    Great supporting cast too

Yeah Ryan Gosling is great in it.

    I thought it was excellent.

Clooney is really good at making these political films.

    A very underrated actor imo

He's done some very good movies

Expected more from it. The acting performances themselves were very good - but I thought the story was far too small - though that could simply be my low brow movie expectations.

I thought Marisa Tomei's character was underused and under-developed, and her professional/friendly relationship with Ryan Gosling's character was dealt with very bluntly in probably just the two scenes she really mattered in. I also don't think Goslings character was developed well at all either - we are simply told he is awesome, without really being given any opportunity to see why he is held in such high regard. There is a hypocrisy to his character, which I assume is intended, but isn't well handled imo, or acknowledged.

I expected more from the movie - not a patch on Good Night and Good Luck, which was a far better movie from Clooney.

Are any comparisons to this made with Michael Clayton? Didn't like Clayton even though I tried. Fan of Clooney so might check this out. I like the premise.

I saw this yesterday. I preferred the second half to the first - I'd tend to agree with Mitch Connor's point re the story being a little on the small side. Dismiss Morris's politics as wishy-washy liberalism if you want, but there wasn't much there (imo) to say it was a big Hollywood liberal wankfest, it's more about tactics, careers and shenanigans. I'm going to say it felt a little more grown up than The West Wing, though not really better at the same time. I like TWW, but sometimes it's a little hyperactive about itself. Anyway, back to the film, I wasn't so keen on the
intern, one night stand, abortion storyline.

I'd agree with this but i still thought it was excellent. Clooney is very underrated. The cast was stunning in this film but he absolutely stood shoulder to shoulder with them in his few scenes.

I don't think Clooney is underrated as an actor or a director tbh

Seems the critics know just how good he is

The scene you've mentioned in your spoiler really undermined the whole move for me. Some great performances but the plot was driven by this event, and it was handled pretty awkwardly.

This would have been great, if i hadnt been wtaching Boss for a few weeks. Now it's just weak. Some good performances though.

Watched this tonight and thought it was excellent. The cast were all fantastic in it. Gosling is really growing on me as an actor. Funnily enough, and I'll probably get slated for this, Drive is my least favourite performance and film I've seen him in this year.

Enjoyed it but purely for the quality of acting on show. I thought the story itself was a bit weak with the potential that was there and to be honest, it bored me in places. Well worth a watch though.
