    Hi guys,

I want to learn a bit about studio photography, or using lights and things to take photos of people & food... although not necessarily together ;)

Just wondering if any of you have taken workshops or courses in the Dublin area that you would recommend?

have not done a course or workshop but would recommend making or setting up a rig for product shots similar to that which Borderfox demonstrated several months ago. (should be a thread on it somewhere)

it can be done easily and cheaply, as regards settings, its best to try and learn from reading online sources and watching video tutorials.....generally f8 and f11 seem to be the favourites lighting positions will change depending on what effect you want to make for the image.

sidelight, toplight, backlight .... experiment and you will learn and understand a lot more than someone telling you that this is the correct setting to use etc etc.

Cheers! I've been reading online, but have no idea why I didn't think of looking up some video tutorials, good idea :)

I want to learn about the different kinds of equipment available and what it's all for, as well as how to use it. Thought a workshop type environment would be a good place to learn.

I'll keep gleaning what I can from online, but will keep my eyes peeled for any classes.

you could also consider renting a studio to play around with for an hour.

there was a time when some boardsies would hire or get a "model" and test/play with studio lighting.

I'm sure a few boardsies would be interested in doing the same (myself included) if someone was willing to organise a pro model and studio time.

The model of course gets some prints and paid for his/her time.

If you're renting out a studio do they usually come equipped or do you have to bring your own gear?

The gallery of photography does one too and it's very good, I did it a while back.

Check if your local camera camera club has a studio, join up and you may have free access to one for the year!
