I have star shaped locknuts on my E46 bmw and have lost the key to open them. Any ideas how i would go about removing them or finding a replacement key?

I need to get a new tyre, wondering if i were to go to a tyre yard would they be able to remove the nuts without having the key ?

They would be kind of pointless if everyone had the same key no?

I don't know about BMW but VAG have about 8 different keys for theirs. You could call to a dealership and see will they remove them for you. Throw them away and put in ordinary stud. They are a pain in the arse and tyre fitters sometimes tighten them with airguns which is so idiotic

    Hi Mike,

Go to the nearest Dealer, they will have at match. Buy a new one and save yourself the hastle i think they are 10-20 euro.

How would you expect to get the tyre off if you have a puncture???

    Get a new one.

This happened me - I lost the locknut. Called into Joe Duffy and they guy there pulled out a box of about 20 different types. He found the correct match for mine after trying a few types.

It cost me €10 to replace.

Yeah, I damaged mine. The nuts have a number on the end to tell you which adapter to buy. Mine was 32 but they didnt have one in stock.

I paid about €8 for a replacement locknut key in Barry's in Galway and it surprised the hell out of me how reasonable it was.
