London- off the beaten track

I'm off to London on Monday for two days, possibly three. I plan to spend the first day in Hampton Court, and am looking for suggestions on what to do with the remainder of my time.

I've been before and have done all the "must see" sites- Buck palace, Natural History Mus, Brit Mus, Tower, Westminster etc- and want to see some of the more quirky, lesser known parts. I like history (esp. Med-Tudor) and literature, and anything that combines the two would be perfect.

    So, any ideas?

    Thanks.

PS: I know there's a billion and one threads about London sights, but I think this is slightly different in that I'm looking for lesser known attractions, so please don't be too hasty to merge!! Thanks!

Have you been to the Sir John Soane's Museum?
I was in London a month ago and had done the usual stuff. Found this place on Yelp.
    More info here: http://www.soane.org/

Thanks for that. I have Sir John down for Tuesday night. Apparently they do candle light tours on the first Tuesday of every month.

Nearby to that is the Hunterian Museum in the college of surgeons, quite interesting. Medicine through the ages from the "surgeon" barbers up to the present day.

One museum that is often missed , and would have a lot of historic stuff would be the Museum of London

    http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/

Its in the ' City ' and a little off the beaten track.

As you are already in West London Osterley House might be worth a visit , but its a bit later than Tudor .

Or Syon Park , we used to go there as kids

    Enjoy your visit !

I haven't been there myself, but the Clink museum (www.clink.co.uk) looks good.

That are of the south bank (between Southwark Bridge and London Bridge) has had a lot of regeneration, as has Borough market and looks like a good area to while away a few hours.

Have a pint in The Prince of Wales pub in Clapham Old Town.

    Its different !

As someone mentioned a day trip to Greenwich is great. Take the DLR out to Island Gardens - walk under the Thames - walk around Greenwich, its Park, the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum. Back along the Thames by boat to Westminster.

There's also the Woolwich Royal Arsenal, London Transport Museum in Covent Garden and a multitude of municipal attractions e.g. http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/museums.aspx
