I was thinking of upgrading my Samsung Galaxy I to the new Galaxy II/HTC Sensation so toddled into Meteor and asked how much it would cost...

The girl told me an upgrade would cost me E140,so I went over to CPW and told him Meteor will do it for E120 and could he match it,he said he would...anyway I got thinking...

The Iphone 5 is out in September,so surely they will be giving the Galaxy 2/Sensation away for little or nothing as soon as it arrives...

Am I right in thinking this?

Best waiting a month or so?

if you wait a month or so there will be a new batch of top of the range Android phones that you will want but they will be expensive so you will convince yourself to wait a month or so :-)

Just to add Meteor rang me today and offered me the GalaxyS2 for 140 euro and they'll reduce my bill with 40 Euro..so it works out at 100 euro

Im on Bill Pay 35 euro a month and due an upgrade next month but they will push it through early...

Or even hang on until October/November and see what 4.0 brings in terms of Google/Nexus..

No point in waiting 3-4 months when Meteor are offering 12 month contracts. In 3-4 months, I'll be 1/3 of the way through my contract and 1/3 of my way towards a new quad-core HTC :-)

Kind of contrary to the point about price reductions with the iPhone then! I'd be more inclined to see a price reduction to Android phones when new Android phones are released anyway; rather than a new iPhone.

I doubt that 4.0 will bring multi-core support though? So the HTC Amdahl you're waiting on next year might not be worth rushing into a contract now?
On the bright side though; in 12 months time Samsung will probably be getting round to applying the update of the AOSP 4.0 code to the SGS II :p

but is the iPhone 5 REALLY going to be coming out here in September...? Any news on what phones actually might be coming out in the next month or so?

I would say so, well assuming that's when it's announced, but it should get the same launch date as UK, wasn't that the case with the iPhone 4?

No signs of anything new coming out that will better the SGS II as far as I can see, which is probably a sign that manufacturers are waiting on the next iteration of Android..
HTC and Samsung both have their best phones out that are market leaders for the Android OS, so they'll probably focus on marketing those rather than developing competitors to their own phones; at least until 4.0 comes out.

A few mid-level phones maybe, but nothing worth waiting for.

The only other manufacturer left really is Motorola, and they don't really market to Ireland; although what has been said in this article might mean they will create relationships with carriers here.
The Droid Bionic has been mentioned around a few places, but looking at leaks of that, it's not exactly wafer thin.

I think most Android manufacturers won't have new high end phones out until around October/November, at the latest Christmas time rush anyway; because the likelihood is that 4.0 won't require hard keys in the same way as 3.0, so new hardware will be important for manufactueres who want phones running 4.0, assuming nobody wants redundant buttons on their phone. So it'd be strange for them to make phones now with buttons like that.

Also, any phones bought before then; it will probably be next Spring by the time they get an update beyond Gingerbread.

Definitely won't be able to buy iphone5 here in September, think about how long it will take between announcement and launch here, it won't be announced (if it is going to be) before September, so earliest is late October I'd say, but more likely November.

Anyway this is an Android forum. What more do you want in a phone hardware wise than is available?
I'd say most phones over the next year or so will only add gimmicky stuff like 3D, NFC etc.

I mean we already have phones with 1.2GHz dual core processors and 1GB of RAM, how much more do you need. Improvements in screen resolution will likely come at the cost of battery life, and no signs of improvement there, so in short I think now is a good time to upgrade if you want a high end phone

This is true...but I think I would love a high spec android with a good actual keyboard as well as a touchscreen.

Samsung Galaxy S2 just seems to light and plastic-y for me.

I have my SGSII in a case, and that adds a bit of solidness to the feel, take it out if I want to carry less around with me.

Just saw this rumor about HTC's next offering, but when this will arrive is anyone's guess

yeah - good idea. i prefer the weight and feel of the htc sensation but maybe the sgs2 with a good case will improve things.

that does look slick out - but as with everything mobile related - who knows if and when we will ever see it!! fed up of all the faffing and mis-info on offer in ireland!

I hope people won't be disappointed when the new Iphone comes out that's if it comes out:p
If you're to wait for the next best thing you'd be waiting for ever.
