We are just on the threashold for the grant. It seems this year we wont qualify for the grant, next year we will as we will have baby no 4.
Is there any point in applying?
I wish they would take other things into consideration like disabilitys etc.

They do, at the very least you'll get a half grant if your on the line.

    what?

The threshholds are clearly laid out

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Haven't had a grant in awhile but when I was, if you were just over the line for the full grant you could get a 1/2 grant. It could have changed, I can't find out but I will be in my local office on Monday so I'll ask them then if it's possible.

    Hi
I think def apply, there are several different tresholds, as far as I know based on family, distance etc. I know many people who got different amounts in grants, it used to be mainly a payment of 1500 or 3500 or even 6000 for those qualifying for a top up payment.
Either way even if you dont get much, the application procedure gets easier once you are in the system, which will make next year less stressful!!

Hope I can tag a quick question here re: the above table.

I am doing a masters in UCD and the fees are 12.5k. The student contribution is supposedly included in that fee (2k for the year). I am expecting to get the special maintenance and max fees allowed paid but will i also have the 2k student contribution taken care of? So its the 6k fees grant, 2.4k maintenance I am due to get but another 2k on top for student contribution?

Thanks and sorry for stealing the thread OP

No - The student contribution is not relevant in the case of a postgrad and in UCD the tuition fee for postgrads includes the student contibution amount

They pay 6270 fees, 2445 maintenance and you pay everything else yourself. You can claim tax back on the portion of fees that you have to pay yourself
