Need advice on a Serious Laptop

    Hello Everyone,

I'm about to buy a new laptop and would appreciate some advice. I'm a consultant engineer and do some fairly heavy duty technical work but don't know anything about the engine under the hood. I don't want to spend more than 1k. I need something which is:

    >sturdy as I'll be moving around a lot
    >will replace my desktop
    >can deal with farily heavy computational work (FEA), quad core might be nice for parallel computing
    >Can deal with 3D CAD and Matlab etc
    >has a good battery life - 5+ hours
Not sure whether I need 32 or 64 bit (any thoughts)
    >has a 15 (ish) inch screen

This might sound like I'm hoping for the sun moon and stars, but I'd appreciate some advice on what to look for in the specs, or even a good option thats out there at the moment.

    OM

a laptop like mine in the sig..

can be got on done deal, look for a x9000 cpu, (core duo extreme), with a gt 9800 sli gpu.

with up to 8gigs of ram and raid hard disk its where the smart money is at.

my laptop gets almost 7 on the windows index, high for a laptop.

    hmm forget it...

    5 hours battery life, lol.

you want to revise that huh....
