Software on Free-To-Air Boxes

    Hi there,

I want to get a free to air box soon, and there is a Sky Dish in place that i can use etc. so its just a case of buying the box that i want now. I have seen the Philex Kit ones that are on sale in Aldi and i dont think the software is that great to be honest.

So my question is there any other boxes out there that have software that is better than the Philex one. I thought there was something that had a little inset window with a preview of what that channel had on at that time or was i just imagining it.

    Any ideas?

Several FTA receivers that I'm aware of have that preview when looking at the channel list. However, it's just for UK tv, a freesat receiver is the only job imo.

You can get Freesat HD recievers off a number of irish suppliers. Not sure about Standard Definition Freesat receivers from those suppliers, but you can pick up a Freesat SD receiver for stg£30 in argos in the north/ Britain.

But could that be used in Ireland?

I think my next question should be 'who are the Irish suppliers?' Where should i be going to see whats best?

Yeah, it uses the same satellites as the Sky box, so will work fine with the dish (as long as the dish/lnb is aligned and working okay.

There's a sticky with a load of details at the top of this board for suppliers, with website links to get prices. "What Satellite" magazine has good comparisons in it every month with a list of all the main receivers, otherwise do a google search for the receivers you see on the supplier websites to get an idea as to what they can/can't do.
