Does anyone know where to find the official Huawei launcher/client program for the Meteor's E173 USB modem ? I hate how it opens the meteor site every time I want to connect to the internet or pops up that warning message about not being connect to wifi when I start the application.

I know Im not connect to the wifi, Im on a desktop !

The link is not dead, it's fine.

You right click it and choose "Save Link As"

It's a ZIP file and once downloaded you extract the files.

I can download the file but winrar is telling me that its either in an unknown format or damaged. Plus the down load is only 10KB so I assumed my browser was trying to download the page not found html page as a .zip file or some such.

I tried the other link and I think thats for upgrading the firmware of the modem. Its not a replacement program for the current broadband to go application anyway.

Would you be happy to use Windows own Dial Up Networking? Then you need no invasive software on your PC.

Takes a bit of manual setting up, I'll post some details if your interested.

Sure. As long as I can have it auto connect when the PC boots.

OK, So first off you need to check the APN (afaik broadband.mymeteor.ie) and any other conection info you need, the dial string is *99#, then you make a new dial up connection with *99# as the dial string, the next bit is a bit more tricky as you need to go to the properties of your modem and the relevant AT command in the advanced properties of the modem. Probably at+cgdcont=1,"IP","broadband.mymeteor.ie" just check the apn.

There are some good instuctions here obviously change any of the settings for the Meteor ones - I don't know if you need a username or password if not sure just try them blank.

So you have a connection you can run just like in the old days of the 56k modem. How you handle the connection is up to you, autodial, shared, redial are all std Windows DUN features you just need to set them up.

You may need to stop the meteor software from loading as it might still try and take over.

Smexy, it seems to be working. There is probably some tweaking I need to do but it looks pretty cool.

Should be no different for speed, one of the advantages of that method is provided the dongle is unlocked you can connect with the relevant APN (and of course SIM card) to any of the networks without having to ever load the software on the dongle, the drivers you need are load automatically anyway before you get the prompt to install the software.

Hello, anyone got the software for the MiFi device?

I have a meteor stick and works ok
I also have an unlocked MiFi device and would like to place the Meteor SIM in this.
However, I will need to connect to the MiFi device and then obtain a day pass, hence the need for the MiFi software.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I have the older E173 device. Someone in the family got the newer device a few months ago and I noticed it has newer software. The new dashboard is handy - checking balance etc. I plugged that device into my laptop and it upgraded the software itself - the next time I opened BB2G, it was the new interface.

About 2 weeks ago, the new dashboard stopped working. I had to uninstall and reinstall, but now I cannot check my usage balance, even if I send that text.

I have tried flashing the new software on the device, but after it installs (following instructions perfectly), the program won't open at all now. I have a distinct feeling that if I tried installing the newer soft/dash on a seperate partition with another Windows, it would install, I've had rare situations with sofware like that, there's something on the computer which stops it working, even if I use Revo uninstaller to get rid of all traces. I've had a peek at windows event viewer and said a specific dll was missing, so I checked the previous version of the folder, found the dll, put it in the new folder and it still won't open...

Any ideas? Happen to anyone else? Does anyone have the older device but can use the newer software?
