We had a discussion in work about paying for call outs for fire brigade etc. Question came up if a search and rescue heli is called out to say a mountain to air lift an injured person to hospital. Is this service free or is their a charge?

And no cost to the state.

The contact is for provision not based on hours flown. So if they don't fly at all that day it costs the Tax payer just as much as collecting someone off a hill.

So the only emergency service that charges a fee is the fire service ?

Ambulance free, Gardai free, coastguard free. Bloody local councils.
