I have a presonus firepod for a few years now. It's sleeping quietly in a padded suitcase with a laptop and I use them only when I have to record outside the studio, which is a very rare thing.

A few days ago I had a gig and the firepod didn't work properly. Luckily it's preamps were working, so I managed somehow, but the USB did not work and the laptop didn't recognize the firepod.

This is very lame considering that the unit had very few hours of usage.

I went to the Presonus website and looked for the Irish dealer and was asked to send them an e-mail in order to get a reply. I sent the email over 36 hours ago but still no reply.

I am thinking of buying this: http://www.thomann.de/ie/tascam_us_800.htm It's very cheap and looks like it will do me for an occasional outside gig.

    Does anyone know this unit?

    cheers.

    S

I have the US-1800 and it's good enough. Pre-amps aren't going to win any awards or anything but they're not bad. Have never used it live either though. The stand-alone function on the US-800 sounds useful, especially live, the 1800 doesn't have it.
