    Stephen Kelly - Wicklow.

How far back are you going ? There'd be numerous in Cork, most notably Ray Cummins & Jimmy Barry Murphy and of course Teddy McCarthy being the only one to win two AI medals in the same year at both codes.

Very true, I think Denis Walsh came very close in the same year - can't recall if he was dropped off the football squad late on or something like that.

Eoin Cadogan plays for both the Cork Senior hurlers and footballers
David Tierney played hurling for galway for years, but also lined out for the footballers for a year in 2001 or 2002.
John O'Loughlin played both codes for Laois.
Did Red Barry play for both senior teams in Wexford, or am I mixing him up with another Wexford player?

shane maher on tipp senior hurling panel at the moment played with tipp senior football team in 2003 the year before he first made the senior hurling panel

Didn't Brendan Cummins play corner forward on the football team at one stage also ?

Martin Quigley, George O'Connor and Nickey Rackard are famed dual players for Wexford, with Redmond Barry of more recent times.

Shane Maher is no longer on the Tipp panel but you are right he has played both codes.

Brendan Cummins played wing forward for the footballer and was very usefull, he's home club would be predominantly football, infact he's fellow clubmate the infamous Babs keating would be one of the most famous dual players from Tipp, won railway cup medals in both codes.

Another from recent times would be Michael Webster, and I'm almost sure but not certain that Paul Curan lined out for the footballers at some stage, oh and Hugh Coughlan came on against Clare has also played senior football for Tipp.

OMG I cant believe I actually forgot our other most infamous son the bauld John Leahy, tbh there has been dozens from Tipp and many more who could have played for the footballers but choose or were forced to choose the small ball.

Ryan O'Dwyer played Junior/Intermediate football for Tipp. Don't know if it counts or are we just talking about dual senior grade players.

Ya he's a very good footballer. People say he's a better footballer than hurler but I don't agree, he is the best centre back in the country so to say he's a better footballer would be a bit of stretch

I think I read somewhere that DJ togged for the Kilkenny footballers (not championship) Is that true?

Teddy McCarty and Jimmy Barry must be the top contenders.

    Dinny Allen Cork.
The late and great Mick Holden Dublin.
    Lar Foley Dublin.
Heffo i think played both for Dublin.
Cork 1973 football team had ray cummins, denis coughlan, brian murphy and JBM who all won hurling all irelands.

Thomas Mulcahy played in a Munster football final.

Liam Currams Offaly played in both AI's in 1981. Won hurling lost football.

I think Tony O' Sullivan might have played that also. Definitely remember him lining out with Mulcahy for the footballers one year.

Christy 'I have a dream' Ryan was another dual player in the early 80s for Cork

    Agree about Brick.

Shane Walsh is a more skilled footballer than he is hurler, but he's a damn good full forward in hurling.

Pretty sure that David Henry has never played senior championship hurling for the Dubs. Don't remember him playing NHL either. He may have played for Dubs minors. At this stage, even if he jacked in the football, I don't think he'd make the hurling panel.

One of the O'Carrolls has played senior hurling for the Dubs - not sure if it championship or league. Both would make the senior hurling panel if they made themselves available. Diarmuid Connolly is a very good hurler too, would be a strong contender for the panel if he concentrated more on hurling.

Is this confined to just male dual players??

In Cork, you have Briege Corkery and Rena Buckley as dual players - in addition to those two, Mary O Connor and Angela Walsh won ladies football and camogie AI medals in the same year - 05, 06, 08, 09 were the years they won both.

Somone told me that at one stage he was the best footballer in the county, and was also the best hurler - any real truth to that, or urban myth.

DJ Carey also, played at least one and probably a few games for Kilkenny during the football league.

If we were to say that a hurler and a national handball senior player can be a dual player, then throw DJ's cousin, Richie Hogan into the mix.

I saw Johnny Nevin play a few times, he was a good footballer but never the best in the country. Don't know about his hurling capabilities tbh.

I heard Eddie Brennan played one or two football games too for the county, but that could be a myth.

I was at a football match V,s Killkenny that DJ played in alright.

    On another subject:
Is it the case that Johnny Nevin has the most championship appearances for his county?

Declan Fanning played for the footballers in 2003. Brian O'Meara from Mullinahone was said to be a good footballer but chose hurling instead. Paul Curran's brothers Niall and Alan were on Tipp Senior panel. Niall still is. Paul is with senior hurling panel since 2000 so didn't ever play football.

Declan Browne is a legendary Tipp Snr footballer and lined out for hurlers in the NHL. May have won an intermediate all ireland with them in 2000

Brendan Cummins just missed out on a Munster football medal in 2002 when we drew with Cork. John Carroll was another guy to have played both around that time.

Noel McGrath's brother John and his cousin Liam played both codes for Tipp minors this year including our Munster final win and quarter final win respectively. Bill Maher (Kilsheelan), Seamus Kennedy (Commercials), Dylan Fitzell (Cashel KC) and John Meagher also played two codes for the minors.

Loughmore are a good dual club for dual players with Paul Ormond and David Kennedy having also played the big ball game for Tipp.

Ross hurled senior but i think Pat Gilroy wouldn't allow Rory to play u21 leinster hurling final last year due to involvement with the footballers. Daly or Richie Stakelum weren't best pleased. I'm assuming both Declan and Tommy Carr were both decent dual players

Nah hes up the other end in Toom :) Think he may have played a bit of both codes over in London when he hung up the boots but never for Offaly.
