Thermodynamic Solar Panels

    Hello,

I've been researching solar panels for my new PH build. I stumbled across thermodynamic solar panels - so called 3rd generation of solar panels.

Has anyone installed these panels in a new build? The marketing information regarding the efficiency seems to be very positive when compared against evacuated tubes or flat panels.

    • With respect to the PH aspects are these type of panels suitable for a PH build?
    • Are there specific standards for DHW in a PH?
    • Does the panels need to be certified by the Passiv Haus Institute?

Thanks in advance for the information.

You can obtain passiv haus certification using entirely uncertified components.

The PHI don't certify any type of solar panels to the best of my knowledge anyway.

Given that you are not aware of this are you sure you are getting the correct guidance or have any idea what you are letting yourself in for?

There was another thread here recently asking about this type of "solar panel" which brought up a link to an older discussion about them which you may find helpful.

be very sure that the supplier/manufacturer can provide you with accurate COP's, relevant test certs, case studies and guarantees. some claim 100% HW by using a sort of air to water heat exchanger, but I've yet to see any proof that there's not a massive electrical bill associated with these products.

Thanks for the feedback . . . I suspected that these solar panels where a type of heat exchanger/pump by a different name !
