Solicitor cost

Just agreed a price for a site I had my eye on - I want to get something in writing to confirm the price/conditions etc. and then get working on planning.

So my next step is to get the services of a solicitor to do the usual tasks associated with building a house (drawing up initial contract, transfer of land, involvement with mortgage/bank and anything else I missed)

My question is should I insist on a fixed price or a percentage? What ball park figure should I be looking for regarding their fees?

Also, while I'm at it -<SNIP>
    Cheers

Not really our dept. but I'll let it sit for a while as others may give an idea of fees.

First of all shop around and ask for quotations so the fees will be fixed and the question of percentages wont arise.

Agree with muffler above. shop around, got a number of quotes, same as looking for a price for any Professional.

With regard to the ''other matter'' you have no protection, Solicitor will be unaware of the transaction, and if it goes wrong, you are on your own.

Good man, I overlooked that part of the post.

@ splashthecash - do not post anything in relation to tax avoidance on this or any forum.
