Howdy. Most of the BMW drivers on this forum would be familiar with the name AC motors. They have been knocking around Dublin for the last number of years, and were allegedly one of the best places in Ireland to get your BMW serviced. Seems last month they closed down, only about 3-4 months after moving to a new premises. Anybody know what happened them??

I used to drop my car in there before they got pricey, but they were good blokes and always gave a great service.

If this should be in the Dublin forum, mods please move

Went bust, there was an insolvency notice on insolvency.ie

Great outfit when they were small, used to get the m coupe serviced there. They got too big, hired a lot of apprentices who were not supervised enough, made cockups and messed customers around. Over the last number of years they lost most of the customers who were with them from day 1.

To sum it up, they charged dealer prices for an ever worsening service.

I think you've got it in one as to why they're now bust.

Also, there was a thread about a year ago where an occasional poster had his BMW painted by them and while the paint job itself looked excellent, they nevertheless returned the car in a dreadful condition; panels not properly aligned, water leaks in the car because parts were not refitted properly etc. I remember looking at the photos of the car after the respray and the lack of attention to detail in terms of refitting all the parts to the car appalled me.

By the way there have been a few threads here about AC cars lately:)!

Quite simply, they got too big for an independent. Moving to the Naas Road into Koping Hyundai's old premises was a stupid idea also.

AC have gone back to basics and moved back to Bloomfield Avenue off SCR, which is where they started off originally.

I got an email from them a few days ago, and rang Richie to see what was going on (being generally nosey!!).

I'm sorry to see that Naas Road didn't work out, but glad to see that they're still on the go. I hope that things work out for them, as I found that they always gave excellent service and value (I always got my parts from them).

Their contact details are still the same; 01-4531433.

    Hope this helps.

Labor prices got too close to main dealer prices seemly.
Ritchie was selling a load of parts on adverts for the last few weeks.

Hope they get back up and going soon.

Not technically a motors question, but can you go insolvent and then just start up again. I presume the company operates under another name now?

Pricing aside, i'd imagine AC will have an uphill battle to regain the trust of their old customers. I'd certainly be wary enough myself.

Thats my car. The paint is peeling already, so it looks like it'll need another respray sooner or later.

It wasn't the only time they fcuked me around to be honest, and I know of plenty of other examples. They ended up bottom of our survey this year for independent garages.
