Bird problem with flower beds

We're having a problem with two small flower beds and birds in the area. Each morning the earth is thrown everywhere. It's a relatively recent occurrence. We can't understand why this is happening all of a sudden. Obviously our first thought is that's it's worms they're after. Is there any way to keep birds/crows away?

There must be something in the soil they are after. What are you growing? Think about putting a mulch down.

Is the soil dry? Maybe they are taking a dust bath

I think you're onto something there. The soil is very dry. It do be strewn everywhere after them. I suppose wetting the soil would help then?
