Just after my first cycle in a long while and I was wrecked after it:(, after only doing about 5.5km:o

This was on a mountain bike, but the tyres weren't pumped up to a proper psi...

What effect does this have: having the tyres at the wrong psi, they were pumped up to somewhere around 30psi.

I've been told for road biking the tyres should be closer to 60psi is this correct yeah?

Well it would make the journey much more difficult. It's the biggest effect on your cycle. My tyres are usually pumped to about 118psi for my cycles. It will say the correct psi on the sidewalk of the tyre. You will notice you feel the stones and bumps more

yeah a road back should be in the region of 110 and a mountain bike on the road I'd say around 60 -

It can make a huge difference as a lot more of you tire is in contact with the road as well as much more sponginess*

*may not be the correct technical term.

I'm on a mountain bike not a round bike mate...But I'll give the tyres a look for the proper psi cheers mate

I think MTB tyres are supposed to be inflated to about 45 psi - I'm open to correction on that.

The more rubber you have on the road the more resistance you experience the harder it is to cycle - an under inflated chunky MTB tyre will have a lot more rubber on the road than a properly inflated road tyre.

Also, (again, I'm willing to be corrected on this), suspension will make it "harder" to cycle in that some of the energy you transmit from the cranks will be lost as the shocks compress and recoil.

Well done on the cycle, though - when are you going out again?

    Hoping for one tomorrow,

I'll be dressed and ready to give it a proper go, today I was only collecting the bike from the shop where it was getting repaired(repaired and waiting in the shop for me for over a week:D)

But really hoping I can pool some money together for a road bike, had one before I left for Oz but sold it(oh how a regret selling it now)

They let you out on soft tires? Not very impressive..

    Just back from a cycle...

Were I had my tyres pumped up to 60psi(rear) and 50 psi(front) and I was very pleased with my trip, the proper tyre pressure made a very big difference I did my trip in 56 minutes, and this time the trip was 18.1km...

    My route was this
