Roxy bag vs Jansport bag for college

I'm (hopefully) starting college in September and need a decent sized backpack to safely hold a 13" Mac, books, bottle, lunch etc.

    I've found these two:
    http://www.bagz.ie/product.php?product_id=716 - Jansport Trinity backpack

http://www.bagz.ie/product.php?product_id=323 - Roxy Poke Me backpack

My main question is, has anyone used either bag and if so, how good was it? Are they waterproof? Do they hurt your back? etc

    Thanks for any help :)

Hi got a back pack called ridge 360 I think def ridge anyway. It's similar colours and patterns to the jansport but about 20 euro cheaper. Has a waterproof cover in a pocket at the bottom. Got it last sept for my daughter for school and it's as good as new now ! Got it in a school uniform shop.

    Thanks for the advice :)

I can't get a satchel (as much as I want one) because I have a bit of walking to do so the strap would kill my shoulder. Also the decent ones (multiple sections, treated leather etc) are ones like The Cambridge Company which would set me back over €100. I can't use Amazon as I don't have a credit card and paying the currency exchange on a 3V card is almost as bad as paying for the item here.

I've used Ridge 53 bags before in secondary school, but I haven't found one suitable for a laptop and possibly heavy books. The main pocket in the ones I have used, and seen in shops, doesn't have a secure laptop section.

I think Jansport will be best for comfort. I always had them in school and college. Make sure to keep the straps tight, no bag, however decent, will give good support if the straps are pulled out so much it sits on your lower back like I see some kids with.

I'd go for Jansport if you're going to be carrying a mac plus books because they're definitely the comfiest. Nice foamy straps so your shoulders won't be in bits.

You can get some with a pocket for laptops too and Roxy wouldn't have anything like that I don't think.

The Roxy straps on my previous bags were thin and not squishy or anything, only really suitable for school moving class to class not commuting with a lot of weight in the bag.

I've had my stuff soaked in the rain in both before unfortunately.

I got a laptop-specific bag from Jansport when I got my first laptop starting uni almost 8 years ago (holy CRAP I can't believe it was so long ago!)

However, apart from some minor cosmetic scuffs, my Jansport bag is as good as new. I had a problem with the zip after I overloaded it once a couple of years back. I returned it to the retailer (it was Arnotts so I'm not sure how good the customer service might be elsewhere) and they sent it off for repair (though I'm fairly certain I actually just got a new one) as all Jansport bags have a lifttime guarantee. Can't really recommend them enough.

Yep, go with Jansport. I've had mine for 6 years now for school/college and it's good as new! And very comfortable.

    Jansport will last forever.

I have this Roxy backpack since Christmas and used it for college:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roxy-Womens-Rucksack-Laptop-Freely/dp/B003LVZET2

It has a seperate space for my laptop, but plenty of space for other bits and little compartments! It's really comfy too, and it's so quirky and cute!

Oh, and I got in PC World for around €50 - well worth it.

Jansport are more practical, but they're a bit dorky imo. Roxy bags are gorgeous.

Jansport are indestructible, but I'm always seeing people going round with Roxy bags falling apart.

Jansport for sure. They are very durable and you get a 30 year warranty for them.

My Jansport is going strong and I've had it well over 10 years. There's not a rip in it and I used it through school and college. I might invest in a laptop cover for extra protection from scratches, spilled water bottles, rain etc though.

I'd go with Jansport had one for 6 year until I got a new back, still have the jansport going strong plus they give a 30 year guarantee on their zips!

I've been using a Roxy bag for about four years now and I haven't had any trouble with it. I don't think it'd fit as much as a Jansport, but it is waterproof. The only thing is, they are SERIOUSLY overpriced here. Got mine in Spain for something like €30 at the time, checked in that surf-y shop that was (is? haven't been in ages) in Stephen's Green and the same one was €75.
