    Hi all,

I joined a club last week and was wondering how long should it take for me to get my GUI card so I can play in comps. I have handed in my three cards this week but really need my handicap to play in a competition soon with mates.

Is it a case of club can set me up in a few minutes or would it take a long time.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Your handicap being done is only a matter of minutes.

Getting card from GUI so you can swipe in and be set up can take longer.

So would i be able to play in a comp without the card?

Yes. Unless the competition/handicap secretary is a cnut ;)

I don't even bring my card with me anymore. Knowing the number is enough. But there shouldn't be any problem playing even without the number unless the people in charge are as I described above :D

Thanks, so how long should it take to get my gui number? Going to give the handicap secretary a call but just want to know how long it should take (compared to how long he says it will take)

I can't help you with that. I got my number when I was 10ish and my memory of time length from that far back in my life is blurry to say the least :P

Depends on the procedure at your club. At my club, when a member joins they are added to golfnet. This generates the 8 digit number which is immediate on the site. A card is then made & posted out (to the club) which takes a few days.
Once you've handed in your cards a handicap can be calculated in a small amount of time and applied to your computer account. A delay can come about for all sorts of reasons but the most common is because you maybe hand in your cards 10 minutes after your h/cap secretary has left for his 3 week all expenses holiday to Vegas

Just give your guy a call or text and tell him you've submitted your cards and see what's the story.

Or in my case they lose your 3 cards, only to call and ask when and to who I handed them in!!!
