UPC and ESPN on select

I was just having a browse through the UPC the other day (I am an existing UPC customer) and I have the Digital Select package, when I was looking through the channel list online it had ESPN and ESPN America included on the channel list for Digital Select and Digital Max.

I checked my channels and I didn't have ESPN, it said it's not included in my subscription.

Should I ring them and tell them what I saw online and say that I want it to be included in my package seeing as it is now included on the package I have that is online?? Also I will be ordering Sky Sports for when the premiership is back now in a few weeks should I tell them that now too and maybe they might feel better giving it to an existing customer seeing as it is now on the package that I have??

Seems kinda unfair if new customers get it for free and I'm on the same package but don't have it.

They are not on Select they are on Select Extra.

do you think if i rang and demanded the loyalty department and said im getting in the sky sports package, and im with you guys years so could you not put on ESPN for free?? im always hearing how the loyalty department sorts people out who are looking for reasonable requests.. plus on sky digital now they get espn for free once they have the sky sports pack, so why not us?? especially when they are giving it free on some packs already!

I don't see why they would. They would only care if you are cancelling.

Why not you? You being with a different provider would be a good start. Sky negotiated with ESPN for that deal for their customers. UPC customers get Setanta Ireland for free yet Sky customers don't.

but they are giving new customers ESPN FREE, so why not us (existing customers - who are about to order the sports package, well i am about to order the sports anyways, which is just as expensive as the normal digital package) just using sky as an example of a provider who gives there existing customers espn free if they have the sports package, and i am wondering how they can give espn free to new customers signing up to any package bar the basic one, but if i say i am upgrading to the sky sports package can you not add in espn aswell seeing as that's what SKY do and that's the deal new customers are getting.........

would this be good firepower?? plus i hear the loyalty dept will give you more help, is it hard to get through to them??

Free to all new customers or free to new customers who take a higher package than what you currently receive?

Well I'm on the digital select package and this say digital select extra.. so if this is a new package then the old one which I have is gone.. i think if their upgrading like that then existing customers should get the free upgrade.

ill try to get through to the loyalty department and have a chat when I'm putting the sports in for the premiership in a week or so!

yes I'm on digital select, and that's the problem my household (family household by the way) does not want to upgrade, yet they are all for getting in the sports package. That's why I am wondering has anyone ever done any negotiating with them before? could I use that because I'm on digital select and upgrading to the sports package, which is just as expensive per month, could they not inlucde espn for me seeing as they are doing it for new customers to digital select (although their calling it digital select extra it's almost the exact same service).

You want UPC to add a channel to your package that you are not entitled to.

Digital Select is clearly not the same as Digital Select Extra. Upgrade to Digital Select Extra if you want the channels from that package.

digital select extra is clearly an upgrade of digital select......when the new broadband speeds came out for new customers all the existing customers who complained got the new speeds free of charge, so they paid what they were paying for the extra service. you clearly don't understand what I'm asking, i'm asking about negotiating about this similar to the new BB packages, but to stay on the same price i'm paying.. you clearly dont see what i'm saying as you're not answering me properly! sorry if i sound cheeky but i want some info off people that have negotiated with packages with UPC before, just like they did when the new BB speeds came out.

The only person not understanding here is you. Digital Select does not equal Digital Select Extra so why on earth are you expecting the same channels as a new customer on that package.

Best of luck in your negotiations btw. I have a feeling you will need it.

if you don't have anything helpful then don't be comment. and again you are still not undertanding what I am saying...............

when UPC introduced new BB packages for new customers, the existing customers complained and they got the new speeds free of charge.

so why can't it be the same for new TV packages. all you keep saying is "digital select does not equal digital select extra" etc etc. I understand this, and that is the very same as the BB - the existing customers were brought up to the new speeds free of charge.

I plan to ring and be asked to put through to the loyalty department and ask for the same treatment as new customers are getting, as far as I know a lot of people's needs are met through the loyalty department, in fact a UPC rep just PM'ed me on this saying that the loyalty department might be able to help out. So I won't "need" luck.

Now please go away and be an internet troll somewhere else if you're going to be a smart arse and unhelpful. This is a place for advice, you could have said I have no info on what UPC will tell you but give them a ring and find out, but as that is a different package then you might not get it, but it's worth a try. Instead you kept saying how the packages are different, even though they scrapped the select package and made select extra. You didn't have to keep repeating that they were different packages.

SKy negotiate, UPC dont. I had an issue with UPC and I gave them alot of stick for it,k they gave me HD for free which is worth 5 euro a month. You ownt get a higher package free. I fyou want sports get Digital select extra. Its ESPN free and its cheaper, You also get Eurosport and Setanta etc! YOu are making no sense!

What is Digital Select and how much is/was it? No mention of it on website..

Hi Tarquin, digital select was a package that they used to offer, but it has been taken down and all the tv packages have been revamped just like all the BB packages were. As far as I can see digital select extra is the equivalent of what digital select was - this all only for new customers of course, but as I said in my earlier posts why not call and give out and ask for the same treatment of a new customer at no extra cost just like all the people did with BB when they introduced the new packages for new customers.

    you are ignoring a question

Are you paying €32 per month for it?

Don't worry I won't, I only act that way when people are acting that way towards me.

And I was not insulting you I was merely pointing out the way you were acting, which was unhelpful and smart. Your consistent comments of the same nature were not appreciated, I read what you said in the first two posts.

It's not that I disagreed with your posts, it's that you weren't helpful unfortunately. Now goodbye.

Thanks, give their CS a shout, I went from max to max+ when UPC got the rights to espn a couple of years ago, asked them to charge me the same as new customer (went from 33.75pm to 34pm). They tried to charge me the monthly cost of the +box, but I got the agent to quote me an all in price per month(ie so all i have to pay is €34 pe month) and took note of the agents name along with the date and time of the call which I was able to use when they inevitably charged me!

cheers for the info Tarquin.. I'll be getting in the Sports package now in about 2 weeks and I am going to try haggle them to stick on ESPN, worth a try and I'd say they'll do it. Just wanted some opinions from people who rang them before trying to get better deals, plus the sales rep PM'ed me and said to ask for the loyalty dept and they should sort me :) as the sales team can't really give better deals than what's already stated, but hopefully that dept will give me the deal I'm looking for. They did it enough when the BB packages came out for existing customers.

I rang them today and they were quite helpful, I've just been getting the basic internet connection for the past 2 years, I currently just have the basic 4 channels but I want better tv now, I got through to there sales team and she told me if I got the basic channel package it would be an extra 13 euro per month which is quite reasonable, my bill will go from 33 to 45 per month, she also said I wouldn't have to pay the 20 euro connection fee and I get sky sports and sky movies free for 2 months, that's not a bad deal, I didn't negotiate btw.......
