where are the rules on domestic smoke alarms?

    is it IS:3218?

just wondering where it states mains alarms must have a separate mcb

also can radiolink have alarms on different circuits

    that's the one alright.

From memory, it says something along the lines of a fire alarm should be supplied from dedicated power, as close to the source of power input to the building (so not off a sub board) and be marked as a fire alarm.

I'll dig he regs out tomorrow and post up the relevant bit

can't imagine why radio linked ones would have to be on a common circuit

that would be a reg for a panel-by the sound of it

I agree that for a fire alarm panel a dedicated circuit would be required.
However sub-distribution boards can be used to supply fire panels, I have seen this many times.

As for mains smoke/heat detectors in a domestic installation, I am not so sure if they must be on a dedicated circuit now but I generally see them on lighting circuits.
Fire alarm panels are often fed from a UPS backed distribution board, which of by definition is a sub board.

    Neither can I.

where are the regs on this

'i know the spec for domestic is covered by building regs anyway

    i'm just wondering

in the UK you can choose either separate cct or lighting cct for mains alarms

and you can feed each radiolink alarm from separate cct

google and the rules are there

can never seem to get rules on things here for some reason

to answer my own question its buiding regs

    apparently they're based on BS5839

    which i know allows

    either lighting or independent cct

and also rf alarms on different ccts
