I have one long cat5 wire going into my room to give internet to one pc, however now there are 2 pcs, anyway I can split this so as it is giving net to both? what is the easiest way without buying another long wire? preferably not wireless!

Find a friend with an old adsl/cable router, one of the ones (most of them), that have the 4 built in ports. Or find a small hub..

So this will work perfectly without reducing speeds?

Most hubs/routers are at least 100Mbps, so it shouldn't affect your 2 PC's speeds.

check. I sell a hub, but each port only gets about 10Mbps. And they arent much cheaper than routers.

what you need is a small 4 port switch , not a hub....you should be able to get one in any PC store or in maplins.

    here you go

    ditto. :)

the fastest and most efficient way to provide a wired networking link is with a switch and will be faster than a hub or router as it's job is much simpler.

you can pick up a decent unmanaged 5 port gigabit switch from maplins or pc world for about 40 quid (or less if you go for a cheaper one). i have two netgear ones at home and they work a treat.

just connect your one cable from your router to any port on the switch and then run cables from your other PC's over to it.

if they are communicating with each other they won't even go near the router, all comms will go directly between them via the switch at gigabit speeds, assuming you have gigabit NIC's in your PC's (which most would have).

if you don't want to spend that much and can live with the switch working at the same speed as your router, rather than a faster gigabit one, you can get them much cheaper.

    this one is €13.31 for a 5 port 10/100 switch: http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=MMEB773211

elara have a pickup point in Parkwest Ind Est. just off the Nangor Road if you're in dublin and want to save on delivery costs (€8 delivery otherwise, afaik).

if you literally just want to share your internet connection then it'll do the job just fine. :)

another option would be, if you had a 2nd network card in one of the PC's, you could share it's internet connection and then use the 2nd NIC to connect to the other PC if they are close enough to each other. the downside to that is, the one that has the direct connection will always need to be on for the other one to get online.

Its means each port on the device can either run at 10Mbit or 100Mbit speeds depending on the client device. Almost all devices now run at 100Mbit so the 10Mb is rarely used.

as i dont want to spend 21e on it (8e on delivery is silly and it would cost me that much to get the bus there and back), i could get this one for 6.50£, it's fine i take it? reviews seem good.

the gigabyte version is only 13£

some specification says batteries not incuded, i take it it must be batteries or ac then...or that was a weird mistake.

thenget a couple of http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired--up-Ethernet-RJ45-Network-Cable/dp/B000I1T3ZE/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1311946210&sr=1-6 or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cat5e-RJ45-Ethernet-Network-Cable/dp/B000IAHNVG/ref=pd_bxgy_computers_img_c and bump my order to 25£ on other things for free delivery.

it also says usually dispatched within 1-3 MONTHS, are they serious?! rofl

on ebay does all the 25 pound have to be spent on things that say super saver delivery? or is it a case of if i pick one item saying that and spend over 25£ on whatever makes the first item have free delivery?
