major flaw in the rent allowance application process!

I've mailed Joan Burton about this and while I'm awaiting a reply I'll throw it out there for fellow boardsies to comment.

For anyone familiar with rent allowance applications you will know that if your rent is above the limit set out by government then you won't receive any assistance.

long story short, I put it to Joan that I'm expected to only pay €24 from my dole (12/13% of €188pw) towards my rent yet in reality I won't be entitled to rent allowance cos I pay €325 a month and the cap is €255! this means I'm being forced to keep paying 40% of my dole payment each and every week to pay my €75 pw rent!

this leaves me with €113 per week to get shopping and pay bills or not as the case may be, I currently owe half of a €700 esb bill!

my big issue with the current system is that i am encouraged by the community welfare officer, landlord and management company to lie on my application and say my rent is cheaper than it actually is! normally i'd have no problem but it states on the bottom of the application that if I knowingly make a false claim I'm liable for prosecution. also if I lie and am granted rent allowance on the bull**** rent rate then I'll be paying €50 from my dole each week instead of the €24 the government want me paying.

If Joan has any sense she'll forward your letter on to be investigated for any fraudulent activity.

Should have kept your gob shut, Yeah my rent is also over the limits too but CWO is aware of it as rent limits were higher when I moved in so im also paying extra.

I trust that you included the names of the individuals who were encouraging you to make a fraudulent claim.
