Renault Laguna II Issues/questions

    Hi Folks,

Having a problem with a Laguna II, Wondering if anyone had some experience with it.

    Renault Laguna II
    2002 reg,
    1.6 16v
    60,000km.
FSH, New belts sparks and full service within last 10k miles.

ok so it basically wont start. It has always taken a little longer to start than i would have liked. needed a little juice to start up when cold but nothing major. Now though intermittidley When i Push the Start/stop button It Just starts Ticking, no turn over just ticking. I pushed it to get it started and drove home fine. When i got home turned it off and Started it Again. It fired up no problem.

But today same issue. First it ticks for a couple of seconds and stops. Then if i hit the start button again it just keeps Ticking. No turnover.

When It does this it also seems to cut power to everything else. Clock resets and Radio now needs code. But when it stops there is power to run radio lights etc. Thats the guts of it.

Im thinking electrical as the issues with the radio etc, but bloody hard to get at the starter motors connections since renault found it prudent to hide it behind the engine.
    Any help Kindly appreciated. :)

How old is the battery in it, if it's the original it may be nearing the end of its life. I have seen dying batteries produce those symptoms - intermittent bad starting, radio code and clock needing to be reset etc.

First thing to do is check and clean the battery terminals then test/charge the battery and see if it makes any difference.

    Cheers for the reply
Id say the battery is original ok. Connections look ok. And its never died on me even when i left internal lights on all night. But yeh il pull it out clean her up and give it a charge.

My mates used to be the same.

Battery sounds like it's gone TBH. New battery time and make sure it's charging correctly afterwards
