Reduction of wages - Is it legal?

    Hi guys,

Is inability to work late due to attending a night course a valid reason for lowering wages?

The contract states 9-6 work hours 40 hours per week. Is an employer allowed to lower wages by almost 37% in this case? The employee is not available during the evening non-work hours.

Are there any laws that govern when an employer can legally change wages of an employee?

Is there a governing body in ireland that handles employer, employee complaints like this?

    Thanks in advance
    Mike

Is the employee still working the 40 hours a week

Yes, the employee would be working the 40 hours per week as agreed on the contract.

If the company attempts to reduce wages like that, you should consult a solicitor.
