Has anybody here on boards replaced one?

I'm replacing mine this weekend as my bolt was spat out along with the pulley, have read a few guides etc, but anybody with experience of doing one offer any extra advice?

I have the new oem pulley, crank bolt and belts to go on.

I know doing it up to 100nm torque, followed by 60, 60 & 30 degrees is quoted as sufficient torque.

But has anybody any other advice for me, how did you find doing it, take you long etc, any info appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :)

Have you a source for that?

As I was going on a guide like here and others, (post 13): http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f18/2004-e46-320d-crankshaft-pulley-replacement-t47027/page2.html

Did you see the bolt? Is it an M18, big enough? If thats it your way is correct. Its for the smaller M12 the way I said.
    Have the engine code?

    Thanks James :)

Got it sorted in the end, but we had to make up a tool to hold the pulley in place as we couldn't access the flywheel :(

But got it sorted, although that last bit of torque was tough to get, but got it in the end :)

Put it in 5th gear and press the brakes or was she an auto?

Had her in 5th gear alright, but not on the brakes.

But we made up a tool to hold the pulley in place and a lever to counter the torque, it looks like a weapon you'd see from Braveheart :D

But it worked very well. All down to the ingenuity of Matthew over on the SXOC :)

    I'll get a pic later.

I was quoted stupid prices for just the pulley from BMW Motorpark in Galway, I believe up to around €450 IIRC.

But I got it ordered online from BMW in Germany (with the help of a fluent German speaker as website was only in German). That cost me €275 delivered for an oem pulley.

Crank bolt was €10 in Motorpark, Galway, same price as online (remember you have to use a new one due to stretch-thread on bolt), and new belts were €35 for both.

So all in all, €320 and a bit of hard work :)

But it was ordered on a Saturday evening, and arrived from Germany the following Thursday :)

Otto Cork :Crank shaft pulley for bmw 320D    B13452    € 193 + vat, in stock Autex branded

This was their qoute. Got few online websites that I found that will give you preference from the cheapest to the most expensive crankshaft. Will post those websites this evening.
I haven't done the work on pulleys yet but I have to do it asap. As I don't want to be stranded. Can you tell us signs before your pulley went? Cricket noise under the hood? Was this present? Thanks

You're paying a fair bit for Pulleys! I got mine from Eurocarparts IIRC for about 120 Euro.
