after watching a few youtube videos, i was going to replace spark plugs on my 01 bmw 318ci as it looks like an easy job, however, after i opened the engine hood, it looks totally different from those videos like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN618su1psU

I know mine is 4 cylinder engine and most videos show 6 cylinder once even they are all e46.

Can anyone point out where are the spark plugs on mine and how to replace them?

I reckon they're at the end of those black leads :)
Pull off the leads, in with the plug spanner :)

    James is correct.

And remember don't ride the spark plugs only give them a small pull of the wrench maybe 25NM.

first take off the black cover covering the engine and oil tank.

this will expose 4 engine coils which you need to unclip and remove and the spark plugs are at the end of the engine coils.

please note that your engine management light may come on when you remove and replace the engine coils

Remember be very careful when installing the new plugs. I usually turn them anti clockwise by hand, on every turn at a certain point you'll feel the plug drop, this is the start of the thread. Once you feel the 'drop' change direction to clockwise and it should screw in nearlly all the way by hand. Then just nip closed with a torque wrench...

Good advice but i wouldn't envy bother nipping them with a torque wrench just do it by feel with the plug socket.

Also OP change your spark plugs while the engine is still warm, most modern engines consist of an aluminium block so if you try change them when stone cold it could be harder to remove them and fit the new ones and you could possibly damaged the threads.
