Buggy/Pram and checkin ( no luggage )

    Guy's,

Can someone tell me the policy regarding prams and buggy's when you don't have luggage to check.

On our way to Gatwick recently we were told we had to check the buggy at the desk, i.e. get a tag for it.

On our way home after a ridiculously long queue we were told there was no need to do that and we should head straight to the gate.

Is this an airline specific thing or a airport policy or what ?

Is there somewhere to find out this info before we travel in future ?

    Thanks
    rob

I think it may be an airport policy.

Recently, travelling home via Frankfurt, the tag came off our buggy (presumably at security where it had to be collapsed for scanning) and the handler at the gate refused to allow it through. 10 minutes of arguing later he conceded that it is possible to have a tag reprinted and did so. Problem solved.

On any Ryanair flight I've ever been on, they've never looked for the tag, so I guess they're not bothered, but I've always gone to the desk anyway. It's no harm. The handlers may look for it. Last thing they'd want is for a buggy that one handler had just taken off the plane to be put back on by another who thought it was belonging to a passenger just boarding.
