Time to pay DART fines

I received a fine last month but subsequently lost the fine docket (smart I know). I handed in an appeal in person to Pearse St. this morning, and while I thought I had 31 days to pay the fine, he mentioned 21 days today.

Does anyone know the length of time you have to pay the fine, and if I've gone over the time limit, what can I expect to happen? This was the 29th day since I received the fine.

    Cheers.

Oh, bollocks. Can't believe I got it wrong. What's the likely scenario now?

They will consider your appeal and either accept or reject it. Once decided you should get a letter informing you of the outcome and, if your appeal was unsuccessful, the amount to be paid and a due date for same.

But what about the fact that I handed in the appeal after the 21 days permissable to do so? That's what I'm worried about.

    Big oopsie.

If your appeal is rejected, they will most likely levy the higher rate to your case though you might be lucky and have the lower one applied in your case. Don't be too hopeful though as very few fines get overturned.

The staff member told me that if my appeal was rejected, I would still only incur the €100 fine. Was that advice incorrect, or could a higher fine be levied due to my stupidness to appeal on time?

If the fine didn't specify a higher rate for late payment, then you should be fine; just make sure you pay it promptly should you get a rejection from the appeal.

Thanks for the info. Delightful morning of sheer silent panic in work has been somewhat alleviated!

Sorry to resurrect a slightly old thread, but for anyone receives a DART fine, had mine reduced from €100 to €50 after a significant amount of badgering to the fines office. The official line is that because I'm a full time student the fine was decreased.

Count your stars and your blessings, just don't take more than 21 days in which to do it ;)
