Is there a list of various catagory climbs in North County Dublin

I'm looking at trying to build up my ability getting up hills and I wondered if anybody could tell me what catagory climbs there are in the North County.

I know I could just go out and find various hills and just get up them, but I like to have targets to motivate myself, so it would great to do a catagory 5, then 4, then 3 etc.

    Thanks

www.strava.com shows a few - though you may have to sign-up (free).

Try here http://www.strava.com/climbs-by-country/ireland/leinster and feel your way thru the various listed locations. It will show climbs as category 4 or 3 in a red spot. I doubt that there's anything higher that that in your area.

I don't think there is a definitive list but you could try

    http://www.climbbybike.com/index.asp - don't think there's any here

http://www.strava.com/ - there's some climbing segments in there with a classification system and times associated with them.

Howth, Naul, Oldtown, Garristown etc I think are where all the hills are at in NCD.

You could create a route on map my ride and it will rate the climbs involved, if there isnt enough then you can add some more.

I take no credit for this, found it on here a while back and had it bookmarked. Might be of some use

If you are sticking to the confines of the County, the following are decent climbs:

    1. Ardgillan starting at the coast road between Skerries and Balbriggan - 1.8km with 80m of climbing (steepest around 12%) - used in the final stage of the Ras in recent years as well as a Swords CC Hill climb (best time AFAIK was 3m 45s!)

    2. Nags Head - off the R132 (Old N1) at the 5 Roads intersection. Just over 3km with 100m or so of climbing - again used in a Swords CC Hill Climb

    3. Man O'War - just south of the Nags Head start, off the R132 again. recently resurfaced so now a great bit of road. Again just over 3km with 100m or so of climbing

With both 2 and 3 there is an option to take a right at the top of the main climb, and add a couple of hundred metres of additional hill to give a reasonably steep finish

Thanks to evryone. I'll map some of them on map my ride and get the catagories. Just did it with the Skerries Ardgillan one and it is a catagory 5. So this might be my first one to try and conquer. Then again I have driven up that hill!!

It's a cat 3 in the RAS but they tend to use quite subjective criteria !!!

By the by, there is no standard for classifcations of climbs. Categorisation is very much what the developers of Mapmyride, Strava etc decide or on race organisers.

There is also Walshestown. From the Applegreen on the old N1 at go over the m1 bridge and continue straight. Its about 2.5km long with more of a sustained gradient. You can go srtaight down the other side and onto the Bog of the Ring and turn around and do it in reverse. However the climbing section from the Bog side is shorter and therefore steeper.

slightly off topic, but on Strava, can you get the elevation profile with gradient, or does it just give the overall average gradient of each climb?

Not quite sure of the question, but the elevation profile shows the actual gradient (or Strava's estimate of this...) every 10m, but hovering over the elevation slope..

    see here

is that what you were seeking?

That was the question, didn't realise you could hover over the graph, thank you.

It's putting part of the Airport Hill in Cork at 30%, however, so I'll take them with a pinch of salt.

Not such a great road anymore it has been covered with tar and chippings. Was heading up that way from Lusk this evening but turned off and headed over by the 5 ways and up the nags head

Yes, went up it last week and had to go on the wrong side of the road, but I'd say they will be finished on it soon. From Man o war pub I went over the castle at Baldungan, down to the harbour at Loughshinny, back up and then down to skerries, up to Lusk and back to Rush. Found it not too bad.

Hey just mapped road out of loughshinny and it it a catagory 5. My first catagory climb. Now to find a catagory 4
