i've owned a bass big muff, and a boss ODB-3 overdrive. If you want a cliff burton sound, i'd go with the bass big muff, and a morley dual bass wah if you want the wah portion of the sound too. that's what i had and got the tone damn close.

Aye Parsley is spot on. Though I think (I could be totally wrong) that he used a Russian Big Muff

Man!! Big Muff all the way!

Our old bassists used one (well along with a few other effects) but he used to play a dropped note everytime i was down behind the bass drum adjusting my pedals or setting up.. the re-verb behind there from it used to make my vision blurry haha

    +1 from me :)

Thanks for the replys. how much should I expect to pay for the big muff? Also Would the big muff and wah sound alone be like the start of for whom the bell tolls and orion? Or would I need distortion aswell? Thanks again.

I'd say Big Muff with Tone Wicker or Bass Big Muff from that lot. Try both in the shop and decide for yourself.

Also consider trying out the Tech21 VTBass while you're there.

I have the soviet muff - its a rather big sound, and its loud. Dont get the US one. They do sound different, milder even. thats it there.

Another pedal which is in the same genre, but totally different and waaay more versatile is the EH Bass blogger - look into it, its really good. Its got a clean signal out too and a switch to change from fuzz to distortion.

He used the Russian Big Muff. However I'm not sure if he used the green one or the black reissue. Either way both are difficult beasts to find as they're discontinued.

The Bass Big Muff is based on the circuit of the black russian, so Bass big muff is probably you're best bet.
although it wouldn't be overly difficult to build a clone of the russian. Might do this myself.

The bass muff is a very good pedal. I love mine, although it developed a very annoying hiss issue last night...

Oh, just a heads up, a guy working in Perfect Pitch in dublin told me that if you buy pedals in the US they use AC voltage instead of DC or something like that... So make sure and ask the lads in the shop you're buying from.

99% of pedals run on 9 volts dc (aka a 9 volt battery) so I wouldn't worry about that at all. Just don't buy an adapter unless it's a visual sound one spot, which works anywhere in the world.

Ac or mains power is different over there so pedals that need an ac/ac adapter may be a problem but even most of these will just need a different power supply to work here.
