was looking online and saw some guy list this as a service. Now I could be wrong but im under the impression a soft mod is using software (like the psp and bannerbomb wii trick)

So is there indeed a soft mod for the 360?
and what would it involve? ... or is the soft mod another term for just flasing the dvd drive?

There are two types of mod for the Xbox 360 both involve modifying either the flash chip on the DVD drive or modifying the NAND chip on the motherboard(JTAG) they both involve some level of modification so it's not softmodding as such, softmodding usually involves loading custom firmware through some exploit or backdoor for example PS3 or Wii.

As justryan said, softmodding is software based in it's entirety. The whole idea of it is to modify the function of hardware via only software. Most softmods exploit vulnerabilities in the console OS or somewhere along the trust chain (e.g. Smash Stack/Lego games for the Wii). Regardless of the result of the softmod, there is no hardware involved so no opening the console or DVD drive, no soldering etc.

There are no softmods for the 360.
