First off our max budget is 15-17000. Hoping for an 07-08 reg. Must be diesel preferably 2 litre engine and reasonable to tax with 4 wheel drive. Am google-eyed at this stage. himself likes the landrover freelander but I think the tax on them is quite high. 3 kids to fit in the back:D Any suggestions?

    Thank you experts!

    Nissan X-Trail?

Hyundai Santa Fe 2wd or 4wd. 2.2 Diesel is apparently bulletproof.

Gran Hermano - just had a look at the grand cherokee's there. Nice jeep but can only see 3 litres on done deal/carzone etc.

Blackwizard - I personally want to go for an x-trail. They have a massive boot and the tax in only €614 which is slightly less than what we are paying out at the moment.

Wish there was a filter option for tax in carzone etc. Would make things a lot simpler and quicker for us.

2008 Jeep Compass 2.0l diesel 15k on carzone. On phone so can't link directly.

Anyway OP, if 2 litre is your max then Santa Fe is not a bad option, bit bigger than an X-Trail too, Woman I work with has an 08 one and loves it.

You'll have difficulty fitting 3 kids in any 5 seat 'jeep'

Just to clear up any confusion folks I did actually mean a 4 x 4/suv type vehicle:o

The car we have at the moment has bucket type seats in the back which means the booster seats and infant seat are just about fitting. The x-trail and honda crv that we looked at are definitely a lot roomier in the back. I kinda presumed all suvs would be roomier but maybe not?

    What's the budget?

Budget is 15-17000 max. Am told the quashqai+2 isn't the roomiest out there.

Was just informed that we are actually looking for a 2.2 - 2.5 litre engine. He needs something with a bit of torque??

Will you be towing or what?

How about a Kia Sorento? They're 2.5l though so the tax will be higher..

The Santa Fe even comes with a 3rd row of folding seats - My bet for sure with your stipulations - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2034039- not a good machine.

Can you find out how heavy the boat is?

He hasn't got it yet! I'm insisting on getting the car changed first. It will be a rib of some sort. Bit hazy on the details as I tend to zone out when he starts on about it.
