I was driving on the N32, coming home from work, and got a phone call so I pulled onto the side of the road. About 5 minutes later a 08 Ford Fiesta pulled up and a Guard jumped out and asked my what I was doing. I just told them I was on the phone so I pulled into the side of the road. He said he'll just check the car for tax, nct etc. While he did this I looked at their car. There was a tax disc and an NCT disc in the window, and it only had 2 aerials. Around where I live they have 3. He said everything was okay and I could go on my way.....I did.

Did anyone else ever see this car ? It was really bugging me. I'm 99.9% sure he was a Guard. He had a stab vest and hat etc. And should he be able to just stop me like that ?
    Thanks :D

@BM33 the Guard didn't stop you. You were stopped, and along the N32 you are likely to get a truck up your tailgate within 5 minutes. Very dangerous place to stop, that's why the Guard (justifiably) took an interest in you.

If you get a call like that, please just ignore it, and pull in later when safe (to you and other road users) :)

Thanks for the info. I wasn't NEAR the road. I was parked beside the gates to Bellcamp College. Thats a good bit away from the road. If you know the N32 you'll know what I'm saying. I should have put that in the description.

A 2008 car shouldn't have an NCT sticker as it's only three years old.

Really depends. I've yet to see one with no aerials. They definitely have got smaller and less noticeable however.

There was a case in the UK where they put the Airwave (What we call Tetra) in the cars themselves (On the rear parcel shelf I think) It caused the Police inside to get headaches and after a few months of research and placebo's, they actually narrowed it down to the aerials inside. They had to remount them on the roof. If anyone here is a AGS member, I'd personally refuse to drive a car with high powered Tetra aerials inside. Unlike a mobile phone or the hand held units, they pump out a few Watts of power in a confined metal cage. Not good news!

Garda cars or any state car dont have NCT certs or insurance disks in the windscreen. They only have a tax disk.

If its the same spot i'm thinking of OP, it can sometimes be used by our friends in blue to meet up before they call around to someone's house for a visit if you know what i mean. You could have unknowingly pulled over at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Actually they do need NCT, so you should see a tax and NCT disc on any 4 year old Garda car. There was a period where they didn't do it but it became an issue as the age of the fleet increased.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

While they may need to undergo the NCT test I have never once seen one with an NCT disc, either marked or unmarked.
