Immersion tripping ECLB breaker

The immersion seems to be tripping the eclb breaker but not initially when the immersion is turned on. Instead it takes about an hour to hour and a half and then it trips. I am thinking its not an element problem as this would trip immediatly but more thermostat (only guessing). Had anybody had any similar issues, tank is only about 5 yr old.

    Thanks.

    most likely new element required
probably a pinhole which expands when heated causing neutral to earth short
    thus tripping elcb
