    Hi all,

i went to the newly open to the public driving range at luttrellstown golf club the other evening. have to say it's a nice set up, and for those of us who hate hitting of matts, to be able to play off grass is excellent.

5 euro for 50 balls. go to the clubhouse first, get your range balls, back into car, take right turn just before main exit gates and follow the road. nice place and will be back.

Yes. It's great. I'm a member there and it's a great facility. There's also 3 great holes on the short range.

Edit: just reaslised I used great 3 times.

Here's some other words you could have used: Outstanding; terrific; wonderful; marvelous; admirable or - and this is my favourite - super-dooper...

is the short range public also then - that I would gladly pay money for

(OP - Sorry to butt in but I have a question on Luttrellstown and I thought it best not to create another thread.)

Is the Luttrellstown golf course, open and forgiving for beginners?

I'm looking for something like Glasson in West Meath and a colleague suggested Luttrellstown last night. I can't tell from the Website what its actually like and I dont want to organise a game if its going to be too difficult.

I'm trying to play more courses other than Stepaside & Leopardstown :)

well to be honest Luttrellstown is not an easy course by any stretch of the imagination, it's long, really long and will test you no matter what your handicap is. but having said that i wouldn't let that put me off playing it either, fundamentally it's a top course but the greens are not what they used to be.

but yeah play it, why not. BTW if you're looking for a more manageable course i'd recommend Castleknock about 1km down the road, the 1st four holes can be difficult as they are quite narrow but after that it opens up a bit. watch out for the hidden hazard off the 10th tee down the left side of the fairway, water lurking and you can't see it from the tee.

Played Luttrellstown this morning and the greens are in top class condition. It's tremendous value at €25. Static, it's a step up from the likes of Stepaside, but far more enjoyable, just take your extra shot to get to the green and you will be fine. It's longer off the greens than most courses off the white, and you might consider the red tees on the 10th and 12th, unless you're hitting it 250yds straight every time.
