Hi, I am about to come off JSA and move to JSB. My wife works full time earnings €2500 per month. Our mortgage repayment per month is about €1300 with bills and insurance coming in at another €500.00. We have two children under 5. I am unsure if I will be entitled to anything from JSB, is there any other route I can take to apply for payments from elsewhere? I have been in full time employment all of my adult life, save for the last year when I was let go (with no redundancy). My JSA payments finish on Wednesday and as of yet, I have heard nothing from SW with regard to and interview. Any replies would be appreciated.

Sorry, yes, he has been claiming from his stamps for the last 12 months and now is moving to the means tested payment.

Here is the information you need to calculate your entitlement to JSA.
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/work_and_jobseekers_allowance.html
Im afraid your outgoings (mortgage, bills, childcare etc.) are not taken into account when calculating JSA. A rough calculation by me estimates your JSA entitlement at 62 euro, maybe another poster will come up with a better figure for you. Sorry:(

Thanks so much for your help. Do you know if they take child benefit into account also? Or if he would be eligible for any other payment, maybe FIS?

It's €2543 take home pay, after tax.

He won't be getting much in the way of sw payments if your take home is this amount.

I agree with gustafo and looking at the criteria for FIS you may not be entitled to any payment from this either.

Add this amount to any voluntary payments... union subs etc

    and calculate your means
    €2543 *12/52 = weekly income is €586
Max for Fis is €602 for 2 kids

    €602 - €586 = €16 * 60% = €9.60.

You should get a minimum payment of €20 per week. Even if you are entitled to €1 you will still recieve €20 p.w. You will recieve this payment for the full 12 months even if your husband gets another job in the meantime. Just be sure to let the dept know. This payment will not be increased only if you have another child in the meantime.

If your husband gets anything on the dole this is also counted as means. You should also go about applying for a medical card as mort, childcare and ins etc are all taken into account. FIS is not counted as means when you are being assessed for a medical card.

Also make sure and get his tax credits too...

mula, your husband can claim either JSA or FIS whichever is more beneficial to you, but not both.

The husband can claim JSA. The person working claims FIS. A couple can be in receipt of both once one is working more than 19 hours per week, and combined they are still under the limit for their family size.

yes but in this particular case, the unemployed husbands JSA will be counted as assesable income for the purposes of FIS, and put the family outside the means for a payment.

Similar situation to the OP, partner was awarded €37 per week. This rose to €51 after the birth of our daughter.

On that income I doubt very much the husband will be entitled to any JSA. And as I already said in my previous post any JSA will be counted as means.
