    http://www.tvguide.com/News/Mentalist-Reed-Diamond-1035655.aspx

Reed Diamond has signed on to guest-star.
Diamond will play Ray Haffner, a confident CBI supervising agent who runs a tight ship. Haffner will lead a group of agents assisting Lisbon and her team with the investigation of a personal trainer's murder. Something tells us the CBI may not be big enough for both teams.

    http://www.digitalspy.ie/ustv/news/a339356/et-elliot-star-henry-thomas-lands-mentalist-role.html

Henry Thomas has signed up for a guest role on CBS drama The Mentalist.
The actor, best known for his role as Elliot in E.T., will play the brother of Lisbon (Robin Tunney), according to TV Guide.
A professional bounty hunter, Tommy Lisbon will cross paths with his estranged sister when the pair investigate the case of a murdered police officer.
"Everyone else in the Lisbon family is a policeman or fireman so Tommy is considered a bit of a black sheep," explained Mentalist creator Bruno Heller. "We'll see that he's the kind of ne'er-do-well who will bring his 12-year-old daughter on a bounty-hunting expedition."
Other actors confirmed to star in future episodes of The Mentalist include The Shield actor Reed Diamond, Greek's Michael Rady and Lie To Me star Kelli Williams.
The series returns to CBS on Thursday, September 22.

Glad it's back. Were ratings low for it to open with that kind of an episode?

Very good start to the season. Bruno Heller should write more episodes.
The episode was pretty clever (nice twist with the secret rooms), but the ending was kind of inevitable. Hopefully they don't wait until April/May to advance the story.

I didn't think it was all that great.
The twist with "Red John's" wife was quite interesting but they raced through a massive chunk of storyline in five or six minutes when he was freed after the trial. Hopefully it will get better once they have this out of the way but it did seem like they are trying to row back from the Red John storyline to prolong it. I suspect we'll have quite a few long runs of episodes without any real reference to Red John again after the initial couple of episodes.

I was singing the praises of this show all summer. I thought "finally a show that actually advances its vengeance storyline and goes to look at the post vengeance story which usually ignored by Hollywood (and should be just as interesting with lots of topics to visit, if you think about). All through the new episode I was thinking "
Wow, they are actually doing it, they are following through" " We are going to see what happens to Jane after Red John, what motivation he could have after his death, maybe go after his accomplices, see how he could get away with so many murders and mesmerize so many crazy peo... Oh wait we ran out of ideas in the last 2 minutes so back to the status quo". Fcuk Bruno Heller, he is a coward and a hack writer. I dont even know that I can continue to watch thsi show, knowing that there wont be any Red John story advancement until next year and that it will either be cancelled without an ending or dragged repeatedly over one shark after another.

3 cheers for Red John momentum. :)
At least they're moving the story forward (clever way of doing it too).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,382 ✭✭✭jimmyw

Its not really moving forward though, is it? It pretends to, by introducing an accomplice of Red John we have never heard of before, and having them not give any useful information at all (they are all killed or are useless because they are blind or in a vegetative state etc.). It gives the appearance of moving the story forward while not actually doing anything at all, these characters can be fully investigated in the show, but we never knew about any of them from the start, so the overall red John story line is never advanced. They can keep milking this stuff forever, its not like they haven't done it several times in the past seasons.

The last few minutes of this weeks episode were excellent.

The latest episode was great, and the ending was a real 'holy sh*t' moment.

    Nicely done. Red-John-Smiley-Face_normal.png

    yes, very good indeed. :)

i didn't actually twig that Jane wasn't actually trying to provoke yer man into revealing himself on the show, then in the last scene i was epxecting him to have gone out in a 'blaze of glory' revealing himself to be the killer, but then with the big reveal at the end everything slotted into place.

pretty cold of Jane tho tbh, but it served its purpose. i think we're going to see a much darker side to the character this season and that was a good glimpse of what he's become capable of, and i like it. :)

He was trying to do that originally. That was Jane's original plan ....to goad him into confessing.

But if you notice halfway through the scene, they took a break and Jane realised it wasn't working. He stared off into the blinking light of the camera and thats the moment the idea came to him......Red John could be watching. He could lure Red John out by getting Panzer to slag off Red John the exact same way Jane did on the Psychic show.

There is even a great moment where the reporter asks Jane his opinion and Jane stares at Panzer for a few moments as if considering wheather or not to go through with it. The scene was really well done in my opinion. Best episode of the season so far.

On a interesting side note.....and I'm guessing here but I would wager Jane went into his dressing room at the end and complimented him because he knew he would be dead in a few hours and felt a tiny bit sorry for him. Interesting to feel sorry for a mass murderer.

The Mentalist is back on this Thursday on RTE One if you have seen the promotional advert already.

The ending for the last season was certainly a shocker IMO. I have never missed a episode when it first aired. The very first show was an absolute winner.

I found this on RTE TEN's preview on The Mentalist for this week.

    Pick of the Week

    The Mentalist (Thursday, RTÉ One)

Season four of this fun-but-occasionally-dark procedural drama returns and takes up two days after the dramatic events of the third season finale, when Patrick Jane (effortlessly hammed-up by Simon Baker) was arrested for the public murder of the man he believed was the notorious serial killer Red John, who also murdered Jane's wife and daughter. Following his imprisonment, Patrick Jane has to prove that the man he shot really was his nemesis. Meanwhile, agent Lisbon is trying to persuade Van Pelt to seek counselling in the aftermath of her fiancé's death.

Interesting show for tomorrow night. Surely, this is my pick of the week every time it come's on:D

I cant discuss this too much as some posters have done so last year when it was shown on Channel 5, which I always forgot:rolleyes:.

At last RTE have gotten round to season 4.
Well I must say I am a bit slow:(, but I didnt expect jane to deceive everyone.
So the guy he shot was innocent of the murder of his wife and kid, but he was guilty of other stuff.I enjoyed it though.Looking forward to the rest of the seasons episodes.

Lisbon and Van Pelt are two hot ladies :p.

i think at the time he believed he was red john, but afterwards he realised that he wasn't, despite what the more obvious evidence was pointing to, BUT he didn't feel too bad about it given that the guy was obviously a murdering nutter anyway, just not the right one. and as a result of that, jane obviously needed to deceive everyone so he could get off and continue his hunt for the real red john.

at least i think so. :)

Anyone been following this lately? Have to admit I am a huge fan. Think the show is in need of some more continuity though. Watched an episode or two out of sync recently and it made no difference at all.

Just caught up to where it is at in the States. What do we think of Darcy? Anyone support her theory that Jane is part of Red Johns Possee?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yeah I'm still watching. The latest one with Darcy's new vendetta is going to end in blood and tears (probably hers!)

I'm still holding firm on my theory that Patrick is Red John. I know it's probably more and more implausible as the show continues, but it'll be an absolute killer twist if it happens.

Love this show, its a must see every Thursday for me. 1st episode of this series was a bit weird, but 2nd one was great. Last weeks kinda was like a stand alone one...wasn't much to do with what had went before. They were all just back as normal! But I still loved it.

Oh yes Van Pelt is the only red haired girl I've ever found seriously hot. Lisbon is cute enough too...but it'd have to be Van Pelt for me :)

    Source

Entourage star Emmanuelle Chriqui has signed up for a recurring role in The Mentalist.
The actress will play Loraliei Martins, a new love interest for Simon Baker's character Patrick Jane.
According to TV Line, Loraliei will have a mysterious side and appear "too good to be true".
Chirqui will make her Mentalist debut in the season four finale on May 17 and appear in at least five episodes of its next run.

One thing you can always rely on is a good series finale from the Mentalist. The CBI scene in the middle of the episode with Rigsby and Lisbon was a double WTF moment, but the truth was revealed too quickly before it had a chance to sink in.

I thought during the limo scene that my PJ=RJ theory was in trouble, but there is still a slim chance that it might yet happen. :o

And Emmanuelle Chriqui? Holy crap she's gorgeous.

Yep, I was thinking "Why doesn't anyone give me a gift that looks like that?":pac:

Strange that they did a 6 months later opening. Seemed more like what they would do after the summer break and last week would've been a good ending for the season.

Well looks like they have to start interviewing for a new boss at CBI again. Why'd Hightower leave again?

Hightower had to leave as Red John had murdered her cousin, and Jane was worried RJ would get after her. (iicrc)
