We are looking at buying a washer/dryer combo because we've got a little baby and I'm about to return to work so needs must and all that. Unfortunately we don't have the space in our apartment for individual washer and dryers which would be my preference.

My previous experience of the combo machines is they don't work very well as a dryer but perhaps they were cheaper machines and as with all these things you need to spend a bit more for a better one.

Energy efficiency is also very important as I don't want my electricity bill jumping up as we'll probably use it alot during the winter.

I've had a look on DID and Powercity but it all means nothing to me as I don't know what's good and bad.

Have a check to see how the water is removed when the dryer is operating !

Does it need a vent kit, or do you have to keep emptying a container from underneath that fills up as it dries.

I have a Siemens washer/dryer, (an integrated one) and it condenses the water and pumps it out as it dries, so no need for emptying or venting of steam !!

Just something maybe you might consider if you are pushed for space.

Also, I have to say, it is a very good and reliable machine, after 6 years of operating it only just required a set of brushes a few weeks ago, which I fitted handily enough.

Good washer/dryer combo is an oxymoron. I really don't think that there is any such thing.

The problem is usually that the internal 'drum' that holds the washing is washing machine sized and not large enough to let the clothes actually 'tumble'. Also, there isn't usually the control over temperature for drying either. At best, clothes come out so creased that you will have to wash them again. At worst, they will be shredded and damaged.

On saying this, my last experience of one was about 5 years ago. Maybe they have improved since..

As others have said not the biggest fan of washer dryers.
Most brands are small size capacity drums.
Lg do some larger sized ones and are quite good,or a Bosch.

We are looking at buying a washer/dryer combo...

How Strange - Did you get a washer/dryer in the end? I am in the same situation, no room for washer + separate dryer, so need to get a combi.
    Thanks!

Well, it was around €450 all in - I've actually already bought one, as I needed it ASAP (the old one packed in). I bought this one from Power City, it's getting delivered and installed this morning:

I googled manufacturers for a while, to try to see which ones have a good rep, which ones have a bad rep, but the information is so conflicting that I just didn't find that helpful.
I read some reviews of this model and they weren't horrible so I just went with it!
